‘Love of country and its flag’
Yasher koach to Heather Robinson and The Jewish Standard for the inspirational June 17 editorial “Flag Day honors what is basic and beautiful.”
Our American flag was flying on June 14, as it does on all national holidays and events reflecting our respect and love of country.
As children of Eastern European immigrants who passed through Ellis Island in the first decade of the 20th century, we carry on our parents’ basic feelings – love of country and its flag – through our own children and adult grandchildren.

To carry the editorial information a bit further chronologically: On Aug. 3, 1949, President Harry Truman signed an act of Congress that called for the president to issue an annual proclamation for all federal buildings to display the flag on Flag Day, June 14.
We honor the flag as we honor our country as an expression of patriotism, yet it must be in one’s heart to appreciate the blessings of freedom and liberty.
Another yasher koach is due the Standard and its excellent staff for all the journalism awards they received. Keep up the fine work.
