‘First-rate performances’

I read Warren Boroson’s fine July 22 article on the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Though he mentioned a number of conductors who let the orchestra over the years, I was disappointed that Boroson failed to include Paul Kletzki, who conducted the orchestra in the 1950s. Kletzki, in fact, while conducting the Israel Philharmonic, recorded on Angel Records the four Schumann Symphonies, as well as Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 (“Scotch”). I still have some of these first-rate performances.
