As someone whose professional life is mostly centered around the special needs population, I am delighted when I see news coverage of this subject. I would like to call attention to a wonderful resource and program – Jewish Education for Special Children (JESC).
JESC is a 3-hour program that meets Sunday mornings, hosted by the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey. The director, Rabbi Yisroel Schwab, has an extensive and intensive background in educating special needs children across a wide spectrum.
The staff consists of educated teachers and assistants, many of them dedicated volunteers who get up early every Sunday morning to provide smiles, support, nurturing, and love. While most of the students attend secular week-day schools, with this being their only formal Jewish education, some go to day schools and have JESC as an additional resource.
