A Jewish Community Hero in Teaneck
Rabbi Ephraim Simon, director of Friends of Lubavitch of Bergen County in Teaneck, and father of nine, recently donated a kidney to a 51-year-old Satmar father of 10 from Brooklyn. His mitzvah is detailed in last month’s cover story here.
Rabbi Simon’s journey isn’t over, though. He has been nominated as a Jewish Community Hero in a United Jewish Communities contest. At stake is a prize of $25,000, which could have a tremendous impact on the work Rabbi Simon does in Bergen County. For example, after morning services this past Rosh HaShanah, Rabbi Simon led groups from the Chabad house in Teaneck to walk to Hackensack Hospital to blow shofar for Jewish patients. Currently, he is in 18th place.
