The Ten Commandments, artistically

Congregation Rinat Yisrael of Teaneck’s adult education committee presents “The Ten Commandments — From the Bible to Rembrandt,” on Sunday, November 11, at 8 p.m.

Professor Jordan S. Penkower of Bar Ilan University will give a PowerPoint presentation on the history of illustrations of the Tablets of the Covenant and the Ten Commandments from the Bible through the Middle Ages, in both Jewish and Christian art. The discussion will include the shapes of the two tablets, the division of the Ten Commandments, the division of the sections (parashot), and the Jewish sources upon which these representations are based.
