An Iranian-Israeli Singer’s Relentless Pursuit of Peace

An Iranian-Israeli Singer’s Relentless Pursuit of Peace

Rita is one of Israel's most popular singers and she embraces her Persian identity fully in the name of peace.

Rita Johanfaruz — better known simply as Rita — makes quite an impression at her concerts. Her family, originally from Tehran, made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) when she was just a child.

In 1998, Rita made her mainstream debut, singing Israel’s national anthem, “Hatikva,” during the state’s Jubilee celebration. After that glorious night, Rita became a star.

She sings in Farsi, and is a sensation both in Israel and in Iran. Crank up your speakers to 11 and tell us what you think!
