The 53rd annual Mickey Marcus Memorial, held on Sunday, May 5, at the West Point Military Academy, marked the anniversary of the State of Israel and the IDF. The ceremony honors Marcus, a West Point graduate who was the first modern general in Israel, and other American veterans who recently died, along with those who died in Israel’s War of Independence.
An official citation, signed by the former IDF chief of the general staff, Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, was presented by Maj. Gen. Michael Edelstein, Israel Defense Forces attache to the United States, to the five Machal veterans who were present, representing the American Veterans of Israel Legacy Corp.
