Seeking summer interns for Teaneck program
As a way to educate and encourage students to consider elder care as a career path, Age Friendly Teaneck (www.agefriendlyteaneck.org) will sponsor a four-week Career Exploration internship for four motivated high school juniors or seniors who live in Teaneck. The internship starts on July 8; the application deadline is May 1. Each student will receive a $1,000 stipend, thanks to a grant from a small family foundation.
Age Friendly Teaneck is sponsoring this internship for the second year, after a successful program in 2018. Elizabeth Davis, Age Friendly Teaneck’s project director, said, “It is clear that our society will need a larger and a more well-trained elder care workforce to provide services for our aging population.”
The internship combines real-world experience and one-on-one connections with professionals in the fields of geriatric-related social work, geriatric wellness, technology, home care, recreation, food service, housing, elder law, and business management. Interns will be supervised by a team of seasoned and knowledgeable professionals from Geriatric Services, Inc., Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey, and Homewatch CareGivers of Bergen County.
