Nearly 1,000 people attended the JCC Thurnauer School of Music’s 29th Gift of Music Gala Benefit concert at the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack. Conductor Gerard Schwarz, cellist Julian Schwarz, and pianist Marika Bournaki joined 250 Thurnauer students who are members of the Young People’s Chorus at Thurnauer, the Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra, or the violin and cello groups. The evening also included the presentation of the school’s Gift of Music Visionary award to JCC board member Craig Barnett and Karen Reisner, and the Distinguished Artist award was given to Gerard Schwarz.
Funds raised support music scholar-ships for families in need. The annual Gift of Music Benefit Concert was established by Drs. Joan and Alan Handler.
