Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley dedicated a Torah last month in memory of congregants David, Michele, and Brooke Dryerman, who were killed together in an automobile accident last September. It was donated through the generosity of the Temple Emanuel community, who came together in grief, solidarity, and love to honor the lives of the family.

The dedication included the completion of the final letters of the Torah scroll, a procession, and the ritual of bringing the Torah into the sanctuary for the first time. Congregants, friends, and community members joined to remember the Dryermans and celebrate the enduring strength of their legacy.

“Writing a Torah is one of the most sacred acts in Judaism,” Rabbi Loren Monosov of Temple Emanuel said. “To do so in memory of a family so deeply cherished in our community is both a responsibility and a powerful expression of love. This Torah will carry their names and their spirit forward every time it is read, sung, and danced with.”

David, Michele, and Brooke were beloved members of the Temple Emanuel family, known for their kindness, warmth, and deep commitment to Jewish life. The Torah stands as a lasting tribute to their memory and a symbol of hope and continuity for their surviving child, Max, who was present at the dedication alongside family and friends.

The new Torah will serve the congregation during Shabbat and holiday services, lifecycle events, and religious education, weaving the family’s memory into the heart of community life for generations to come. For more information, go to www.tepv.org
