Teaneck Library gallery exhibit
“Duet Designs,” a collection of 19 pieces of art by Teaneck artists Carolyn Kaldy and Dianne Bekritsky, is on display this month at the Teaneck Public Library. Pieces include quotes in Hebrew and English calligraphy with biblical origins, including “The Lord is My Shepherd,” “I Am My Beloved’s and My Beloved Is Mine,” and “Everything is Beautiful In Its Time.” Along with watercolor and pen and ink art, there are papercuts, a woodcut, a ketubah, and home blessings.
Dianne Bekritsky, who has lived in Teaneck for 45 years, studied Hebrew calligraphy and illumination with Jay Greenspan at the 92nd Street Y and learned design at the New School, and taught herself English calligraphy. Since 1972, she has focused on creating personalized ketubot and also makes Judaic art including papercuts, quotations, and family trees. Her “Jerusalem of Gold” laser cut wood plaque won first place in the Bergen County Senior Art Exhibition in the craft category and honorable mention in the New Jersey State Art Exhibition. She is a vice president for Salute to Women in the Arts and secretary/treasurer for the Jerusalem Institute for the Blind.
Carolyn “Lynn” Kaldy, who has lived in Teaneck for 50 years, was a stylist and designer for women’s and children’s wear and outdoor patio furniture for 40 years. She produces reproductions of houses (mostly in Teaneck) in pen, ink, and watercolor, and loves to do landscapes, antique houses, and flowers.
The library is at 840 Teaneck Road. For more information, go to teanecklibrary.org.
