The Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County in New Milford will host an advance screening of the film “On the Map” on Sunday, September 25, at 7 p.m. It will be followed by a panel discussion with Bob Griffin, 1972-1979 Maccabi Tel Aviv point guard, and Penny Amodai, NBA manager of international basketball and elite development and former Maccabi Tel Aviv director of international operations.

Directed by Dani Menkin and produced by Nancy Spielberg and Roberta Grossman, the film recounts the story of the 1977 Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team, which, against all odds, beat the four-time defending European champion Soviet team to become “The Team of the Nation.” The film also features interviews with the athletes who made history.

General admission is $18. Additional ticket and sponsorship information can be found at www.ssdsbergen.org. All proceeds benefit the Stephanie Prezant z”l Israel Scholarship Fund, which provides support to SSDS students who need financial assistance for Schechter’s eighth grade Israel Encounter trip. The fund is named in memory of SSDS alumnae Stephanie Prezant ‘04, who had a lifelong love of Israel.

For information, call Michelle Weinraub, the school’s director of institutional advancement, at (201) 262-9898, ext. 277, or email her at mweinraub@ssdsbergen.org.
