Rutgers Chabad opens doors to new students

Last month, Rutgers Chabad House in New Brunswick had a grand opening. Chabad now houses 100 students in the luxury suites in its dorm, and 200 students have signed up for its kosher dining program.

Chabad’s resident assistants gave the new students gifts for their dorm rooms. More than 500 incoming first-year students, as well as returning students, attended Chabad’s JCafe Israeli Grill Open House and Jewish Involvement Fair. There was a showcase of Chabad’s programs featuring student leaders of the clubs Chabad sponsors, including the Rutgers Jewish Community Service Group, the Shabbat Committee, the RU4Israel Advocacy Group, Social JCafe Leadership Team, Sushi and Soul, and the Challah Baking Committee.

Chabad’s new chef, Moshe Schoenfeld, a former caterer, showcased a hot Israeli shwarma grill with hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and exotic mocktails. More than 500 students went to Chabad’s Shabbat dinner, which included candle lighting, lively services, a speech by Rabbi Goodman, and a full Shabbat meal with home-baked challah.
