U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman and state Sen. Loretta Weinberg, at a press conference in Teaneck on Monday, accused Republican presidential hopeful John McCain of being under the influence of the oil industry.
Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama is coming to Bergen County — maybe.
Rep. Steve Rothman, the northeast co-chair of Obama’s presidential campaign, announced at a press conference Monday that he would strive to bring the presumptive Democratic candidate to the area for a NORPAC fund-raiser similar to the one the group held for Republican hopeful Sen. John McCain on Tuesday. Rothman told The Jewish Standard that he had called Ben Chouake, NORPAC’s president, about hosting one for Obama shortly after reading Chouake’s comment in last week’s Standard that the pro-Israel group is willing to hold fund-raisers for any candidate with a positive record on Israel.
Rothman, a founding member of NORPAC, said the organization targets "both sides of the aisle."
