North Sudan slaughters more people, according to Clooney's satellite project

According to actor George Clooney’s satellite project, which was set up to monitor events in the African nation of Sudan using aerial photography, Sudanese government, led by dictator Oamr al-Bashir, has been killing large numbers of civilians in the southern portion of the country and burying their bodies in mass graves.

Last month, large numbers of ethnic Nuba people in South Kordofan state were rounded up, taken away in trucks, and never heard from again, according to eyewitnesses who spoke with human rights groups and the United Nations.

In addition, last week the newly formed nation of South Sudan-a country comprised of Christians and animists, or practitioners of tribal religions-who want to be free of Sudan’s radical Islamist government in the North, reported that the Northern government last week backed a raid that killed 72 citizens of the new nation. http://af.reuters.com/article/sudanNews/idAFL5E7JO2WO20110824

These are extremely ominous developments. In addition to being tragic for obvious reasons, they are also an assault on the new nation of South Sudan, with which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu established formal diplomatic ties last month.

Historically, Southern Sudanese, millions of whom were slaughtered by the Khartoum government since the 1950s, have been allies and supporters of Israel. In the 1980’s the Khartoum government provided shelter for Osama bin Laden to establish terrorist training camps.
