No ticket, no Torah?

We stopped by Teaneck’s Sterling Cleaners the other day, and we were reminded that garments aren’t only for people. Torah scrolls don’t go naked into their ark, after all. And while they’re less likely to spill coffee on their covers than people are, they still need the occasional cleaning.

Still, it was a bit startling, seeing a synagogue symbol at the cleaner, along with our shirts and slacks.

But not as disturbing as it would have been to see a Torah perched in a laundromat chair, waiting for its garments to finish spinning.
