The National Council of Jewish Women’s Bergen County section named Michael Silverstein as its November Volunteer of the Month. Michael, a life member of NCJW BCS, has volunteered for the organization for nearly 17 years. His first project was hanging T-shirts for the Clothesline Project for the Rape Crisis Center, part of NCJW StoP (Strategies to Prevent Domestic Violence) program.

When Ms. Silverstein retired as a full-time professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology about 17 years ago, his wife, Ina Miller-Silverstein, an NCJW past president, volunteered him for NCJW’s Swim-In program, which works with people who have multiple sclerosis. He has co-chaired the program for many years. He also volunteers with other NCJW members at Family Promise of Bergen County Walk-In Center, feeding the homeless. He has picked up bread at a local bakery to deliver to the Center for Food Action and helped set up NCJW’s waiting room, a space set aside for victims of domestic violence at the Bergen County Courthouse.
