Mini ‘University of Jewish Studies’ in Teaneck
Teaneck’s Temple Emeth begins “Stories from a Jewish Perspective” on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. from October 22 through December 3. Participants take turns teaching the popular course, but it is not mandatory that students teach. The authors whose work the class will examine include Saul Bellow, Philip Roth, and Bernard Malamud.
At 8:40 on each of those Tuesdays, Rabbi Steven Sirbu offers “Please Rise (to the Occasion).” In the Jewish tradition, not only rabbis and cantors lead prayer services; instead, any properly trained and motivated Jew can lead. This class will teach an overview of the liturgy as well as the skills necessary for leading Shabbat services and shiva minyanim in a house of mourning.
Both courses are at the shul,1666 Windsor Road. For more information, call (201) 833-1322 or go to emeth.org.
