Remembering our losses
We have seen some terrible losses in our Jewish community as well as in our larger community in these last couple of weeks.

Ed Rusinsky was a friend and a colleague in many partisan and good government causes. He was warm and always supportive and I was proud to call him my friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and we shared many laughs about the ironies of life.

Dr. Leonard Cole was a teacher to all of us in the Jewish community and beyond. He seemed to always be present in all the right places, with a willingness to share his great insight on so many issues with us.

Mayor Sophie Heyman was my friend and colleague. I loved working “across the aisle” with Sophie. She was a great commissioner on the Palisades Interstate Parkway commission and I lobbied for her continued service there. She always spoke up in the best interest of all of us, particularly as a woman, a mom, and a grandmother. She definitely spoke truth to power, whether within her party or in our state or nation

We will miss each and every one of these giants of our community. Thank you to the Jewish Standard for memorializing them so the rest of us could learn more.

Loretta Weinberg
Majority Leader AND Senator (ret.), Teaneck
