Rabbi David J. Fine, PhD, left, and Reverend Nolan Palsma

Reverend Nolan Palsma of the Upper Ridgewood Community Church and Rabbi David Fine of Temple Israel & JCC, both in Ridgewood, speak in-person about “The Christmas Dilemma for both Christians and Jews.” The 12:30 p.m. program, part of the Temple Israel’s Temple Talk series, tackles the challenges both religious leaders face with Christmas from both perspectives.

Reverend Palsma confronts the commercialization of Christmas versus the spiritual celebration for which Christmas was intended. “The religious celebration of Christmas has long been influenced by society for many years,” he said. “How does one celebrate the spiritual nature of the holy day without getting wrapped up in the secular culture?” Rabbi Fine will talk about how Jewish families are challenged with Christmas as it can compete with Chanukah. Jewish children can feel overwhelmed with Christmas as it can become pervasive in their lives in all forms. For more information go to www.synagogue.org.
