In recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 31 teachers, including a few from Bergen County, attended a training program, “How to Teach the Holocaust,” at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. Hosted by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the program highlights Echoes & Reflections, an organization that offers free Holocaust professional development and classroom-ready resources for middle and high school teachers.

Bella Miller of Wanaque, a survivor of Auschwitz, spoke during the program and showed the educators the number tattooed on her arm. The program also trained teachers on how to support students’ study of Holocaust history and its ongoing meaning in the world today. This is one of the conflict resolution and anti-bias trainings offered by the foundation.

Local teachers included Brianna Cinelli from Crescent Elementary School in Waldwick, and John Giordano and Gabrielle Anconetani from Lewis F. Cole Intermediate School in Fort Lee.
