The Bergen County sheriff’s office is taking applications for the 19th class of the Citizen’s Police Academy, a 10-week course designed to give residents a working knowledge of law enforcement policies and tactics. Bergen County residents 18 and older are eligible to participate.
BCSO’s Citizen’s Police Academy is designed to educate participants on the functions of the sheriff’s office and the role the agency plays in Bergen County. The academy is offered in a classroom-style format and includes demonstrations of the equipment and tactics law enforcement officers use in a broad range of contexts, including motor vehicle stops, medical operations, disaster preparedness, homicide investigations, K-9 patrol and detection, fire safety, and crime scene analysis.
The class also will tour the Bergen County Jail and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
The class begins on Thursday, September 29, at 7 p.m., in the Bergen County Jail, and concludes with a graduation ceremony on November 10.
The deadline to register is September 21. Go to www.bcsd.us and click on Community Outreach > Adult Programs, or call (201) 336-3540.
