Celebrate Rockland’s heroes
Rockland Jewish Family Service will hold its “Unsung Heroes” brunch on Sunday, December 15, at 10 a.m., at the Rockleigh, 26 Paris Ave., Rockleigh. Honorees include RJFS board member Rabbi David Berkman; social worker Susan Conry of the older adult program; food pantry volunteers Kevin, Braden, and Thomas Czerwinski; Outreach Committee member Brenda Greenberg; and musician and entertainer Mara Lewin.
The Unsung Heroes are the people who help those at RJFS behind the scenes. Without the volunteers, the group would be hard pressed to perform its community services.
Rabbi David Berkman is the senior rabbi at New City Jewish Center, where he’s been since 1991. An advocate of social justice, he is an active board member at RJFS and has been on the boards of other Jewish organizations in Rockland County. Susan Conry provides guidance, encouragement, assistance, and support to RJFS elderly clientele. Kevin Czerwinski and his sons, Thomas and Braden, all are volunteers at the Rhoda Bloom Kosher Food Pantry. Kevin is a local college professor and journalist, Thomas is a student at Springfield College, and Braden attends Suffern High School. Brenda Greenberg also is a past co-president of the Rockland section of the National Council of Jewish Women. Mara Lewin, a volunteer musician, was a Jewish educator at the Reform Temple of Rockland and the facilitator of Jewish programs for preschoolers and their parents at the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey.
Proceeds will benefit the programs at RJFS. For information, call (845) 354-2121, ext. 177, or go to www.rjfs.org/heroes.
