Boy dies after JCC pool incident
A child whose heart stopped beating while he was in the swimming pool at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly died Sunday.
Michael Placide of Brooklyn was pulled out of the shallow end of the JCC’s outdoor swimming pool on Thursday after suffering cardiac arrest. After being given CPR first by a lifeguard and then by rescue workers, he was taken to the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. From there he was taken to the Hackensack University Medical Center.
He turned 9 while hospitalized.
“With heavy hearts we share that the child who had an incident in our pool last Thursday has passed away. Our thoughts, prayers and strength go to the family at this difficult time. We as a community mourn this tragic loss,” the JCC wrote on Facebook.
Police said Michael’s family was with him when he died, and requested privacy.
