Author to speak in Paramus

The JCC of Paramus/Congregation Beth Tikvah presents journalist Cindy Schweich Handler and her husband, Harry Handler, as they discuss the book she wrote about Harry’s grandfather, Fritz Oppenheimer.

The program is set for Sunday, December 7, at 1 p.m., at the JCCP/CBT. Mr. Oppenheimer’s story is told in “A German Jew’s Triumph — Fritz Oppenheimer and the Denazification of Germany,” written by Ms. Handler with a foreword by Mr. Handler.

A German-Jewish soldier, Fritz Oppenheimer earned two Iron Crosses fighting in World War I. About 27 years later, he was U.S. General Eisenhower’s legal aide at the Nazi surrender in Berlin. His work included capturing top Nazi leaders and interrogating Wilhelm Keitel, head of the Wehrmacht.

A light brunch will be served. It costs $10 for non-members and registration is required; there can be no walk-ins. Books will be available for signing and sale. For information, call (201) 262-7691.
