ADL praises authorities for foiling plot to attack nyc synagogues
New York, NY, ““ The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today applauded the New York City Police Department for thwarting an apparent terrorist plot to attack Manhattan synagogues, and called for hate crimes charges to be included against the suspects.
Authorities arrested two men in connection with the alleged plot, which, according to officials, was still in the planning stages and no specific targets had been selected. The suspects were reportedly apprehended in a sting operation after they tried to purchase weapons, including guns and grenades.
Ron Meier, ADL New York Regional Director, issued the following statement:

The arrests of these suspects is a stark reminder that Jews and Jewish institutions continue to be a favorite target for extremists. We are fortunate that the alleged plot in this case was thwarted before it came anywhere close to fruition.
We applaud the New York City Police Department and its Intelligence Division for acting swiftly and decisively to thwart this threat.
This case is a reminder that everyone must remain vigilant when it comes to security. Since the target in this case might have been a synagogue, it is appropriate to include hate crime charges alongside the terrorism charges.
The two suspects are expected to be charged under New York’s anti-terror laws. ADL has been in close communication with law enforcement on the case.
