Lavish Lunches, an annual culinary experience that supports a broad range of programs and services for seniors in the community through the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, is set for Thursday, March 8. Breakfast will be at 10:15, and lunch at 12:15.

The funds raised through the Lavish Lunches allow seniors to age in place and remain socially, mentally, and physically connected to the world around them. They support the JCC’s mission to provide seniors in our community with a wide range of programs and services, including a social adult day care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, extensive programming for active retirees,; door-to-door transportation in wheelchair-accessible vehicles, hearty breakfasts and hot kosher lunches, programs for the arts, lectures and concerts, discussions on current affairs, exercise, sing-alongs and dancing, birthday and holiday celebrations, and intergenerational programs with nursery school children.

The morning will begin with a light breakfast at the home of Michele and Daniel Ross and will feature a culinary presentation by Michael Ferraro, the renowned chef/restaurateur of two trendy NYC eateries — Delicatessen and macbar. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America at 20, Mr. Ferraro trained with several chefs, then joined NYC’s famed Four Seasons Hotel at its fine-dining restaurant, Fifty Seven Fifty Seven. He was sous chef at the Biltmore Room, executive chef at Fresh, took over the kitchen at SoHo’s Delicatessen, and opened a sister restaurant, macbar, which is dedicated solely to gourmet macaroni and cheese. He is a member of Zagat’s inaugural class of 30 Under 30.

After the breakfast, participants will attend their choice of lunch, served in local homes and other venues, where hosts and hostesses will provide a memorable experience, each with a unique theme. Selections include celebrity chef, meditation, floral design, mah jongg, and mitzvah lunch.

Luncheon hosts and hostesses are Lori Capon and Josh Capon; Orly Chen, Orna Jackson, Mali Oelsner, Riki Shulman, and Yifat Yechezkell; Stephanie Cohn and Jillian Somberg; Lorin Cook, Kiera Flynn, Susan Marenoff-Zausner, and Alyzia Sands; Robin Epstein; Stacy Esser, Jamie Corsair, Lori Danziger, and Alisa Messer; Marcia’s Attic; Merle Fish; Mindy Lavin and Iris Wormser; Dalia Lerner and Michelle Marom; Gabrielle Marcus and Lindsay Skulnik; Eileen Pleva; and Elle Rubach and JoJo Rubach.

The presenting sponsor is Palisade Jewelers, which also will also donate a portion of sales made by Lavish Lunches attendees before March 8 to support the senior adult programs at JCC.

The event committee includes co-chairs Lorin Cook and Brandi Rubin, with Shirley Altman, Michel Blum, Orly Chen, Stephanie Cohn, Alissa Epstein, Merle Fish, Kiera Flynn, Jenna Gutmann, Michelle Marom, Jackie Pollack, Michele Ross, Beth Rubach, Jennifer Schiffman, Jillian Somberg, and Francie Steiner.
