The Jewish Center of Teaneck, Congregation Rinat Yisrael, and the Jewish Community Council of Greater Teaneck invite the Jewish community to the annual Joy and Al Amsel Memorial Community Passover Biur Chametz (burning of the leavening) aka the “the Big Bread Burn,” on Monday, March 25, from 9 to 11:48 a.m., in the JCT’s parking lot on Cedar Lane. The event is made possible by a gift from Jeanne Glazer in memory of her husband, Samuel.

The Teaneck Fire Department will be in the parking lot with a fire truck; it will also teach about fire safety. The Streit’s Matzoh Company has donated chocolate kosher-for-Passover lollipops, which will be distributed at the burn, and Rabbi Lawrence Zierler, the fire department’s Jewish chaplain, will wear his official fireman’s coat and hat.

Anyone who brings chametz to be burned should put it in paper bags. Do not use plastic bags – they do not burn properly. Parking will be on the street, because the center’s lot will be closed to vehicles.
