Thank you for your article about Rabbi Goldin (“Rabbi of rabbis looks back,” July 5). One of his extraordinary gifts is as a teacher. I was privileged to learn from him in his parsha class for many years. He showed such breadth and depth of knowledge. He brought us a range of perspectives from classic and modern commentaries. He always made Torah study precious and relevant to our lives.
Rabbi Goldin was also masterful in retaining control of the class and the subject matter while welcoming questions and insights from his students. He could foster open mindedness without our brains or Torah falling out. He’d let us know what was off the mark but always treated us sensitively and respectfully.
My children all grew up knowing that not only their father but their mother as well took Torah learning seriously and joyously. This was in no small part due to Rabbi Goldin.
