My compliments to Warren Boroson for his interesting Feb 11 article on “Why Jews revere Abraham Lincoln.” What a wonderful way to celebrate Lincoln’s Birthday by sharing Rabbi Genack and Carl Epstein’s great interest in Lincoln. I loved learning that Lincoln showed enormous sense of empathy toward Jews. The one example of his enormous sense of empathy, noted by Rabbi Genack, was when Lincoln saw to it that his manservant, who passed on to smallpox, “was buried in Arlington National Cemetery – with the headstone, William Johnson, Citizen.”

I also read with great interest the item on “The Infamous General Order 11” with regard to Maj. Gen. U.S. Grant, which I never learned in any history book.
