Rabbi Binyamin Zimmerman, chief educator of Zomet Institute, is the scholar-in-residence through October 22 at Congregation Rinat Yisrael. The weekend theme is Jewish law and technology. He will give three talks on Shabbat; “Noach and Avraham: Two Eternal Messages, One That Persevered” in the morning; at 4:30 p.m., “Shabbat in the Modern Age,” Shabbat Elevators, Wheelchairs, Computers, Medical and Security Needs in the 21st Century: Is There Room for Halakhic Technological Modification?”; at 5:30, “Sensory Perception: Electric Eyes, Automatic Sinks, Hotel Stays: What is one to do?” On Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m., he will present “A Taste of the Zomet Experience,” an audio/visual demonstration showing how Zomet modifies technological equipment to meet the medical, security, and personal needs of the Jewish community.
